June 2026 (almost)

It’s Great to be Back on the Water!

The weather is warming and excitement is building for the a great season of rowing. It’s been great to see so many members at the first few rows & work-bees.

Check out iCrew for the Spring Session Calendar.

Toggle in early and often. Form your team boats or join an open session, pack a snack and beverage for post-row socials!

Open and Organized Rowing Sessions

Open rows are open to all rowers at a Novice+ level or higher. The focus is fun! It’s a great way to meet and row with members of varying experience and row in different boats!

Organized Rows: Are made up of team boats, each with a captain. These sessions are open to intermediate and above level rowers. Team boats can be any size boat & spaces are filling.

Boat Captains: Organize your rowers for the day(s) and time(s) preferred, type of boat request, and email to row@northernmichiganrowing.club.

Rower Etiquette: Reminder that as a rower we all have a more rewarding experience when we allow the Coaches and Coxswains to lead our sessions. This means being quiet in the boat to listen to feedback, try not to coach fellow rowers in the boat and not talking when carrying boats. Any rower can ask coach or cox questions during a row, and if you have critique or concern, please speak to the coach or a board member.

Parking: Rowers, please park along the south fence, allowing other park visitors to use the east side, closest to the lake.

It’s Spring & the sun is warm but it’s good to be prepared for cold conditions: Dressing in layers and being prepared for the changing weather is so important this time of year. Consider having in your rowing kit: brightly colored rowing jacket or shirt, a change of clothes, wool socks, hat, gloves, layers of clothing to put on or take off, sunglasses, plastic water bottle, band aids, whistle, cell phone, and a PFD.

The Wellness Summit

Did you know that NMRC is a member of the Leelanau Wellness Collective?

A big thank you to club members Joe Carter, Emma Rosi, and Marti Chamberlain for representing NMRC at The Leelanau Wellness Collective’s first Wellness Summit at The Homestead on Sunday, May 3rd. They were able to talk to many participants about the club. Joe worked with several folks on the ergs that were set up. It is a collective of wellness professionals dedicated to expanding access to multidimensional avenues of well-being through high-quality classes, 1:1 career, workshops, retreats, and trainings.

Volunteers Make This Club Run (Row)!

And we couldn’t do it without you! A huge thank-you to all who turned out on multiple days to do park cleanup and rigging at Lake Leelanau. A wonderful way to start the season and work with our crewmates in a different way. A special thank-you to those who organized the work bee so things could be accomplished quickly and efficiently. Stay tuned to iCrew and newsletters for future volunteering opportunities.

And a BIG thank-you to all the volunteer Winter Training Coaches! Diane, Daniel, Erica, Kathy B, Lindy & Mindy led our winter rowers through many erg sessions from November - May!

We appreciate each and every one who gives back to NMRC!

(Please forward this newsletter to a few rowing curious friends!)

Supporting Our Club is Always in Season!

We are a volunteer, member run 501c3 and depend on donations to sustain our club. Membership fees go toward overhead costs and staff (coaches/coxswains). All equipment repair and upgrades are supported by the generous donations of our community.
