April 7, 2024, Newsletter

Hello NMRC!

It’s time to gear up and sign up for the 2024 rowing season! Save $50 by signing up by April 15! We look forward to rowing with old friends and converting newcomers to our sport! Spread the word!

Merch Alert: While we always hope for sunny skies and calm waters, sometimes rowing is chilly and wet. Be ready for anything with a NMRC gortex rowing jacket! We only order these jackets once each spring and we need a minimum of 6 orders to place a club order. The window closes on April 15. Order here: https://northernmichiganrc.itemorder.com/shop/sale/

Business Sponsorships Available: We are grateful for last year’s NMRC business sponsors including Bright Bridge Studios and Quick Storage of Maple City. We hope to make business sponsorships a more significant part of our club fundraising this year. Our business sponsorship program is outlined on our website under the Support NMRC tab or this link. Please reach out to any businesses that you think might be interested in sponsorships!

Volunteer Fundraising Opportunities: With fundraising on the mind, by participating as a club at the Cedar Polka Fest and the Sleeping Bear Marathon last summer, NMRC earned a nice bit of cash and increased our visibility in the community. We will be volunteering at these events again. Please contact members@northernmichiganrowing.club if you aware of similar upcoming opportunities so our club can consider participating!

Volunteer Opportunity: One opportunity for community exposure is coming up July 20. We are looking for 2 to 3 volunteers to run a booth at the Parenting Communities 2024 Street Fair. The fair will run from 10 am to 2 pm on July 20 at the outdoor spaces at 7401 E. Duck Lake Rd, Lake Leelanau near the VFW Hall. Please contact Lindy at lindykellogg@gmail.com if you are interested in helping give NMRC a presence at this event!

New for 2024:

  • In an effort to build our entire membership’s rowing ability in the big boats, we will be asking members to commit to a regular session each week. This will replace team boats this season. We suggest coordinating with your previous team if you’d like to continue rowing together. We will have novice and intermediate focused sessions. The goal being to develop novice and intermediate rowers. Mindy will be member’s contact for scheduling. Contact her with questions at mindy@northernmichiganrowing.club

  • We will continue to require 10 hours minimum volunteer commitment. (Many put in many more hours than that and it is so appreciated!) We are also asking experienced rowers to fill seats when needed for novice sessions. We are asking for a minimum 2 session commitment.

  • We were able to purchase a used 8+ and a newer double at the end of last season. We are excited to add these boats to our fleet for this season

Memberships can be purchased in the club store on iCrew or a check can be sent to our PO Box 113, Cedar, MI 49621. Paying by check helps the club reduce payment fees.
