Hello NMRC!
Have you figured out your winter fitness routine? This early snow provides so many options! But, if you’re not into snow sports check out our indoor training options below!
Indoor Winter Training 2025/2026
Our indoor season is officially under way. Many thanks to the NMRC volunteers who make it possible to offer this at a reasonable price including Lindy, AKA The Erg Doctor, for organizing indoor rowing and assessing and ordering replacement parts for all of the ergs and our volunteer coaches, Daniel, Diane, Lindy and Mindy.
Winter training at Sleeping Bear Bay Club in Maple City consists of one hour indoor rowing sessions for all levels. We have 9 machines and volunteer coaches.
Schedule:
Monday & Wednesday Evenings 6pm
Friday Mornings 6am
Saturday Mornings 9am
It is not too late to sign up for a Full Season Membership from December - April which costs $250. The drop in rate is $15 per session. All sessions have limited space. Members must toggle in on iCrew to reserve a spot. Drop-in reservations available within 48 hours of session, if space is available.
2026 US Rowing RowFest National Championships
Next summer, rowers from NMRC are planning to attend RowFest 2026 which will be held at Ford Lake Park in Ypsilanti MI from July 11-19. In preparation, some members are participating in the Royle Rowing training program.
In the Royle Rowing program, rowers complete several fitness tests measuring their watts on the rowing machine. After these tests each rower receives advice directly from the program coach, Marlene Royle, on areas to improve. Workouts are based on the level of exertion for each individual rower's watts test and NOT a one size fits all workout prescription. Strokes per minute and time of pieces will be the same for the group yet the suggested 500 meter split will be set based on each rower's erg tests. These wattage tests can be repeated at any time a rower would like to to adjust their own intensity level as they progress through the program.
If you missed the previous communications regarding this work out program, the deadline to sign up has been extended to today Monday, December 8th.
We currently have 13 committed participants which would make the total cost for 3 months of $48.00 per person. That cost will go down with more participants and financial assistance is available.
If you have questions, please contact Daniel or Dana today, Monday, December 8th. Participating in the Royle Rowing program is not a prerequisite to attending RowFest with the NMRC crew next summer. It is just another fun way to up your competitive game!
NMRC Concept 2 Online Team Sign up
If you’re looking to stay connected and pursue goals from home and have a Concept 2 erg, you can log in to https://log.concept2.com/ and sign up for the NMRC rowing team. We will be participating in a variety of online rowing challenges throughout the winter.
Contact Lindy or Diane with questions.
Erg Maintenance
Just like our boats, we put our club Ergs to good work and they deserve some maintenance. Keep your eyes out for an indoor work session announcement in your emails soon. It is good to learn how these machines work!
Year of End Giving
We are a volunteer, member run 501c3 and depend on donations to sustain our club. Membership fees go toward overhead costs and staff (coaches/coxswains). All equipment repair and upgrades are supported by the generous donations of our community.
NMRC is now registered to receive donations via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) from Fidelity Charitable. So if you have investments with Fidelity, it is easier and more secure to make donations to NMRC!
