Joe Carter -- Level II Coach
Joe was born in Detroit.
The first rowing club in the U.S. was the Detroit Boat Club, founded in 1839.
He was unaware of that rowing history in the city of his birth.
Fast forward to 2011.
He was asked to create a documentary on rowing on Lake Leelanau.
And here he is.

Heather Adle -- Level II Coach
Heather is a US Rowing Level II Coach. She began rowing in her 40’s and decided to put her teaching degree to continued use and help other Masters rowers learn the sport. Her love of being on the water in the coaching launch or in a shell rowing, has recently taken her to The Berkshires in Massachusetts and Tampa, Florida, where she has coached sweep and sculling for both Juniors and Masters.
-
Dana Fear -- Novice Coach
Dana started rowing in 2016 and quickly took to the sport. She often refers to it as “yoga on the water” because it’s a continual practice to refine the rowing stroke, requires your full attention and presence and is a great workout. In 2024 she took on the role of novice coordinator for NMRC and in 2025 received her Level 1 coaching certification. She enjoys guiding new rowers into the sport and the wonderful community around it.

Diane Hamilton -- Level I Coach
Diane frequently attends rowing camps and racing clinics throughout the US. In her travels, she has been fortunate to learn from some of the best coaches in the business. As a self described “student of the sport”, she is excited to share this knowledge with her peers at NMRC. If you see her struggling in a single, please remember that those who can’t “do”, teach!
