Hello NMRC!
We are off to a great start this season! We hosted a successful Learn to Row with a big group of participants and enthusiast volunteers. Our novice program is growing with participants mastering new skills in every session. Our volunteers for the M22 Challenge earned our club some cash while spreading the good word about our rowing programs at NMRC. Thank you everyone! Next up? Read on!
Novice Program News
New to rowing and want to learn more? Join our 8-week Summer novice program designed for new rowers.
The NMRC Novice Crew practices Thursday evenings at 5:45pm. Coach Dana guides the novice rowers through the basics of the stroke, rowing terminology and rowing on Lake Leelanau.
Sign up by July 1st! Click here for more information: NMRC Members
Summer novice session begins Wednesday, July 2nd! (moved from Thursday because of July 4th holiday)
Summer Season Kick off Social
Tuesday, July 2nd, 7pm. Let’s get together to kick off the summer season at the Solon Twp Beach Park. Bring a snack to share and something to drink for yourself. We’ll toast to the lake and meet the novice boats when they come in. This is a nice opportunity for our established members to cheer on our new members. See you there!
Oar - ganization Reminder
Diane Hamilton has carefully organized and labelled all of our oars. (Thank you Diane!) Please do your part to keep our oars organized and undamaged.
Sweep oars come in and out of the oar house through the double doors facing the boatyard.
Sculling oars are numbered in pairs and labeled by length on the lake side of the oar house racks. There are corresponding labels on the oars racks.
- Long oars have blue tape near the blade and numbers beginning with D
- Medium oars have yellow tape near the blade and numbers beginning with C
- Short oars have yellow tape near the handle and numbers beginning with A
- Bantam oars have white tape near the handle and numbers beginning with B (these oars are lighter weight and easier to handle — great blade choice for newer scullers, or for a weaker sculler in a stronger boat)
Please keep oars in numbered pairs on the corresponding shelf, handle them gently to minimize contact damage.
2025 Schedule

Volunteer Corner
Thank you to the early birds who helped represent NMRC as volunteers at the M22 Challenge. Our members on shore and in kayaks were joined by two family members to help steer the over 900 racers along their course to the crazy finish.
Polka Fest Sign up in iCrew: August 21 thru 24 — Cedar Polka Fest. Thursday 7pm-11pm, Saturday 7:30pm-11:30pm. We have these two time slots to fill. Please show up 15 minutes before the shift to be placed in a role that they need a volunteer to fill. We need a minimum of 6 people per time slot. We can wear our NMRC gear and represent! Our participation supports the community we row in and supports our club.
